We are sharing a number of videos here on the subject of fracking in an effort to enlighten those who are not aware of just how dangerous and detrimental the process is. Please scroll up and down the blog site here to catch them all.
So, what is "fracking"? Fracking is a slang term used for "hydraulic fracturing". It is a process used in the oil and gas industry to intentionally fracture the earth in order to extract more oil and natural gas from the ground. The process uses horizontal drilling methods and the use of millions of gallons of water combined with undisclosed chemical cocktails and sand. The water, sand, and chemicals are then injected at very high pressures to break open fissures through which the oil and/or gas can be captured - at least some of it can be captured. Some of the oil, gas, and chemicals leak upward into aquifers. The water from these contaminated aquifers is then pumped up through wells for use as household and irrigating water. There are those who feel that fracking for natural gas decreases our dependence on foreign oil. However, we should not be dependent on oil at all, but should instead be turning to the clean technology for energies and transportation that we already have. With our efforts to cling to our fossil fuel dependence, we may well be destroying our clean water resources. Lack of clean water to drink is a very high price to pay for our unwillingness to change. It is too high a price to pay. We can live without oil and gas. We will die without clean water. Which one will you Support? From the folks at "OnlyHempFuture".... If you are still looking for that perfect electric vehicle that is better than a gasoline-powered car in performance and range, you might want to look to Tesla Motors for your answer. Tesla has been around for quite a while now, and improving every step of the way. They began with their sporty Roadster - a hot car with lots of zip and eye appeal. The Roadster gave us all a fresh new look for an electric vehicle. Now Tesla has come out with more family oriented vehicles - a sedan (Model S) and the newly announced SUV (Model X). These cars have a serious range of up to 300 miles, and can do 0-60 faster than any of us should ever need to (4.4 seconds). They operate with lithium ion battery packs, and come with a wide range of options. Some models can even seat up to seven people (5 adults and 2 children). Tesla cars have just about any amenity that their petro-based counterparts have, along with air bags. We think Tesla Motors has done an outstanding job of Supporting our environment and our people! They have embraced the need and the Timing for alternatively powered vehicles with tremendous attention to technology, functionality, and eye-appeal. They do the job very well. Here is a look at the Tesla Roadster.... Here is a little test drive with the sedan (Model S).... A quick look at the Model X (SUV).... The unveiling of the SUV (Model X)....This is a longer video that tells more about the history of Tesla Motors. We think you'll enjoy it. You can find out more about Tesla Motors here.
If you've thought about using an electric vehicle, but need more speed and range on a battery charge, here's one that might work for you. It's the Phoenix Motorcars SUT - one of our favorite EVs. It has a range of 70 miles on a single charge, and can run up to 80 mph. You can find out more here, and see this EV in action below. If you aren't familiar with the plight of the electric car here in the U.S., the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?" will be a real eye-opener for you! We would Love to share this movie in its entirety with you here, but we are not sure about copyright issues that appear to surround it. We did find a site that offers free viewing of the movie, and the link to that site is listed below this trailer for it. This is one movie we feel everyone should see. These are issues that we should all be aware of, as they enable us to make more informed choices in how we interact with each other and our environment. If you are tired of using petroleum fuels, and paying the unreal prices for them these days, you might consider an electric car. Take a look at one of our favorites for short distance driving. We Love these little GEMs! Did you know....a mature deciduous tree will remove 1.33 tons of carbon over a 100 year lifetime? A coniferous tree will remove .682 tons of carbon over the same time period.
Today is Arbor Day. Whether you are planting trees today or just making your plans to do so, you will want to keep a couple of things in mind. One of the most important reasons we should plant trees is for their carbon sequestration abilities. Deciduous trees sequester more carbon than coniferous trees - usually. That is to say that when a deciduous tree is hibernating, it is less effective than when they are fully leafed out. If you live in a northern climate where deciduous trees are only leafed out for brief periods, then you might want to plant a mix of both types of trees to maximize your sequestration efforts. Your local extension agent should be able to offer some suggestions on this idea.
Think about those who call the Amazon their home. They and their rainforest home are being destroyed at an increasing rate - mostly to provide more pasture for the beef industry of Brazil. Take a look.... This video clip has been excerpted from "The 11th Hour".
Here is an excellent video on the relationship between forests and climate change offered by the Forestry Commission in the U.K. Did you know that the United States makes up 4% of the world's population? Did you know that the U.S. generates 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions? Did you know that only 8% of the world's trees are located in the U.S.?
The U.S. needs MORE trees! For every tree we see, we need to plant three more just to Balance our impact on the atmosphere. With our current rates of fossil fuel usage and population increase, we should plant another three just for preventative measures! We know that we should reduce, reuse, and recycle, but we still have a carbon footprint. So, what can we do to offset that footprint? We can plant trees! How many trees do you need to plant to offset your carbon footprint? We found a great carbon dioxide emissions calculator to help you figure this out. Check out the Carbonify.com website while you're there. They have lots of good information.
As Arbor Day approaches, we are all reminded to think of the great importance of trees in our Life. Trees are our partners in Life in sharing the oxygen and carbon dioxide Balance in our atmosphere. For as many humans as there are on this Earth, so should there be trees multiplied by a dozen. Their importance in our lives cannot be overstated! Thrive: What On Earth Will It Take - a dynamic and thought provoking movie offered for Free viewing from the Thrive Movement.
