It's Arbor Day across most of the U.S. today. It's a time to give some serious thought to the state of the world's forests. Our forests are in need - of space to grow, of replanting, of shielding from the ravages of deforestation of all kinds. The world needs forests, not just a tree planted here and there - even though every one helps. Take a look at this wonderful little video,"The Beautiful Forest", from the WWF United Kingdom and remember that forests are alive - entities unto themselves. They are not ours to destroy. We need them. Even dryland forests are important, as you can learn more about on our Sacred Earth Gardens blog today. As it is Arbor Day, if you are in the U.S. and would like to help the efforts to save our existing forests or replant those that have been destroyed, there are several ways to do it. If you join the Arbor Day Foundation, you can receive ten trees to plant yourself or have ten trees planted in one of their reforestation efforts as a part of your $10 membership fee. You can contact your local National Forest Service to see if free trees are available locally. You can adopt part of an existing forest through The Nature Conservancy and other similar organizations. You can also make a donation to one of the many organizations who work diligently to save the world's forests through a variety of efforts from buying acreage to Protect to staging protests to stop logging and other deforestation. However you choose to help, know that the world's trees and forests thank you. So does Mother Earth! And, we do, too! "Earth Keepers: A Survival Guide for a Planet in Peril" is a beautiful, inspiring documentary showing us real solutions to problems faced all over the planet. When we can all work together on the solutions, the problems will become infinitely more resolvable. We all benefit. We can do it. Never give up! Thousands of our viewers have viewed and shared our post on Landfill Harmonic. Many of you have wished you could help the children of the Recycled Orchestra in some way. Now you can. The Landfill Harmonic folks are doing a fundraiser to finish this incredible film bringing to light the worldwide issues of poverty and the pollution of waste. As awareness spreads, not only do the children in Cateura, Paraguay benefit, but people the world over who live in similar conditions. If you can donate even $1, you can help. If enough donations are received, not only will the film be finished, but the Recycled Orchestra may be able to do a world tour. What a wonderful experience for children whose Life has been a difficult struggle! Please share a dollar (or more) if you can, and please continue to share the word about the Landfill Harmonic and the Recycled Orchestra! You can make your donation and find out more here. The Healing Arts Center has updated and expanded their page with descriptions of the services offered. They also have updated and new information regarding fees. You can find out more on the Healing Arts Center blog.
If you are traveling in western Montana, please slow down and watch for the "bison on road" signs. This is calving time for the bison, and many pregnant bison cows are migrating to their calving grounds in Yellowstone National Park. For some of these bison, this means crossing highways which can endanger their lives and motorists' lives as well. So, please slow down and exercise extra vigilance when driving. Montana is home to a great deal of wildlife, and travelers must always keep this in mind when traversing Montana's highways. However, this is a special time of year with the bison migration. As you can see in the video, they will run and/or walk right down the highway. Also, please be patient with them. These cows are heavy with calves right now, and may not be moving as quickly as normal. Thanks to the Buffalo Field Campaign for their great work in Protecting the Yellowstone Bison herd - America's last wild buffalo (bison). |
