What can you recycle? Almost anything!
We all know the usual things that can go to the recycling centers:
Paper
Cardboard
Glass
Plastics
Cans
Here are some more unusual things that you can also recycle:
Bathtubs
Bicycles
Books
Building materials
CDs
Clothing
Concrete
Doors
Electronics
Furniture
Kitchen implements and small appliances
Linens
Shoes and boots
Sinks
Soils (excess soil from leveling out a space)
Tires
Tennis shoes
Toilets
Toys
Vehicles
Videos
Windows
The list goes on and on…..
Where do you recycle these items?
Church thrift shops
Goodwill
Habitat for Humanity stores/centers
Local Senior or Community Center
Nike Reuse-a-Shoe(tennis shoes)
Recycling Centers (They sometimes take these items, too)
Red Cross
Other Recycling or Reusing Ideas:
You can also run ads in the newspaper offering to give away unwanted items such as old appliances, beds, tires, etc.
Call a green building contractor in your area to see if he/she knows of anyone who is building with used tires.
Tire shops will also sometimes take used tires, either for resale or for re-treading. It is very important to recycle tires, as it takes around 400 years for them to begin decomposing.
Scrap metal dealers will also take old appliances and other metals.
Sometimes building or landscaping contractors will take soils if you are leveling an area on your property.
Contact landowners who have creeks, streams, or rivers on their property to see if they would like your concrete pieces for building up the banks of their waterways to prevent erosion and flooding.
The Recycling Center is only just beginning. If you'd like to share your ideas, too, please let us know here. We'd Love to hear from you.
