Pe'Sla is the term the Lakota people use for their holy lands - the birthplace of their people, their place of sacred ceremony. These lands are located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The lands in question legally belong to the "Sioux Nation" under treaty with the U.S. government. However, they were illegally homesteaded in the late 1800's, which has resulted in private ownership that is also considered to be legal. It is a matter that one would think should be settled in court. Evidently that is not the case.
Today, these sacred lands are going up for auction to be sold to the highest bidder for development - namely a highway that is to cut through the Heart of the Black Hills. The lands will no longer be accessible to the Lakota people. The "Sioux Nation" has come together in an attempt to raise enough money to buy back their stolen lands, but they are short of funds and are fast approaching their November 30 deadline to raise them. You can help save this sacred site by spreading the word and/or making donations to the purchasing fund.
